Osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on modality which seeks the cause, not the effect, of one's ailments. It is performed by doing a thorough assessment of the patient's tissues (fascia, muscles, ligaments, bones, organs) and then applying treatment. Osteopathy treats the structure of the body, to affect the physiology of the body, and thus can have an influence on physical pain, digestive ailments, etc. However, osteopathy does not claim to treat conditions, but affects the conditions through the adjustment of the mechanics of the patient's body.

I completed my Diploma of Masters of Osteopathic Manual Sciences (MOMSc) in 2025 at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy. Previous to my foray into healthcare I had believed I’d be a career tree-planter. From my late teens until my early thirties I tried on the many hats of the seasonal work industry of Northern British Columbia. In my final five years of planting I stepped into a role of camp first aid and worked alongside physiotherapists interested in the field of preventative and maintenance care for tree-planters’ bodies. It was also during this time that I started to regularly see an osteopath. I was drawn to osteopathy initially because of its almost mystical seeming quality of treatment, and then moreso by the tangibility of its results and its groundedness in anatomy. My studies only deepened my belief in the importance of the mechanics of the body, and structure and function’s reciprocality. The body is a dynamic unit of function and that truth is only furthered after each person that I treat. I appreciate that osteopathy offers a lot of agency and creativity in how treatment may be applied while on the search for the cause of the patient’s ailments. I was trained in principles-based osteopathy which does not rely on specific techniques, but instead allows the operator to choose which tool is necessary for the task at hand. I would say it is akin to a chef knowing one’s ingredients intimately as opposed to following a recipe book. It means every treatment will look different, even on returning clients. That is because the body is always changing and needs the treatment appropriate for it in that moment. I’m interested in working with all sorts of people, whether that’s infant, youth, adult or eldery, chronic or acute issues, labourer or office worker. Osteopathy gave me hope in my body’s ability to recover and heal and I would like to encourage that hope in patients.
